Preparedness for Individuals & Families


You can do this! Now is the perfect time. A little advance planning can help create a sense of control and reduce stress. Start a conversation, make a plan, and make a kit.

The goal of the Plan 9 campaign is to help you create your family disaster kit in a way that is easy, inexpensive, and fast.

Important Items


Although there are many items you can add to make your disaster kit more complete, we encourage you to first collect the following nine items:
  • Can opener
  • Clothes
  • First aid
  • Flashlight
  • Food
  • Hygiene items
  • Medications
  • Radio
  • Water

These items can be the foundation for any emergency preparedness kit.

Reusable Grocery Bags


The Norwalk Fire Department distributes Plan 9 reusable grocery bags at presentations and safety events. The department hopes these bags will encourage residents to prepare as well as encourage community organizations and businesses to help their clients, volunteers, and employees prepare.
