Call to order at 8:00 AM
Since there was not a quorum present official action was not taken.
Clinic Fees
Proposed increases to immunization and laboratory fees were reviewed. The members present supported the revised fee schedule and agreed that Mr. Callahan should contact the other Board members. If after contacting these members a majority of the Board voted in favor of the revised fee schedule, then the schedule becomes effective on December 1, 2002.
Ms. Adams, Ms. Donovan, Mr. Lalime and Dr. McNamara supported the proposed fee schedule.
Meningitis Vaccine
Aventis, the manufacturer of Meningitis vaccine, has issued a warning that vaccine used since January 1, 2001 may not provide full protection against a form of meningitis that is caused by serogroup A. College students who received this vaccine in order to enter school do not need to be revaccinated. The Public Health nurses are notifying the 372 people who received this vaccine from the Department. Aventis has agreed to provide the vaccine at no cost and to reimburse the Health Department for the costs associated with notification and revaccination of patients.
Customer Service Standards
Standards developed by the Health Department staff were reviewed. These standards are one of the outcomes of the staff development that was conducted during the past year. This project was undertaken by with the assistance of the Norwalk Community College Workforce Institute.
Proposed Ordinances
The Public Swimming Pool and Salon ordinances are scheduled for review at the November 21, 2002 meeting or the Ordinance Committee.
Influenza Vaccine Clinics
Clinics were conducted at the Norwalk Senior Center and St. Mary’s Church. Seven additional clinics are scheduled. The final session is on Tuesday November 26, 2002 at the Health Department from 3:00 to 4:30 PM.
Environmental Conditions in Schools
Mark Gorian, the Facilities Director for the Norwalk Public Schools has advised Mr. Callahan that at the buildings that had roof replacements and a history of mold complaints an environmental testing and cleaning company was retained. Work was completed.
Information on the EPA Tools for Schools was provided to Mr. Gorian for his review. Health Department staff will follow up with Mr. Gorian on this matter.
