DISCUSSION OF COMMISSION ANNUAL FAIR HOUSING EVENT
Atty. Suib suggested that the Commission consider having an event in the spring. She said that she would recommend they consider having the Executive Director of the Connecticut Fair Housing come and speak at a luncheon. Atty. Suib said that when she had tentative discussed this with the Executive Director, the Director had suggested three possible topics: reasonable accommodation aspects for landlords and tenants; discrimination by realtors when recommending school quality, and the increasing practice of insurance companies refusing to cover landlords who rent to Section 8 or have disabled tenants.
Atty. Suib informed the Commission that Connecticut Fair Housing is a non-profit and that recently HUD slashed their funding. The Executive Director speaks at various functions to raise funds. Atty. Suib suggested inviting landlords, tenants and those attorneys who are involved in this area of law.
