CALL TO ORDER

Dr. Amodio called the meeting to order at 7:38 p.m.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

The following corrections were made to the minutes:

Correct Mr. Nissing to Reverend Nissing throughout

Correct Ms. Amodio to Dr. Amodio throughout

Page 1: correct spelling to LeTourneau

Page 2: correct spelling to Mr. Schlosser

Page 3: third paragraph, last sentence add – If no response was forthcoming from the Mayor regarding their meeting with him.

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT/OLD BUSINESS

Director and Bi-lingual Secretary Searches

Dr. Amodio announced that interviews for the Director’s position will begin on June 1 at 8:30 a.m. She said that the position has been posted, and believes that it is still posted. There are two new additions to the interview committee, Lou Ciccarillo, the City’s Corporation Counsel and Richard Booth.

The Commissioners discussed the interview process. They agreed that they care about the quality of the person who will be selected to fill the position.

Dr. Amodio said that she would like to see the Bi-lingual secretary position filled.

The Commissioners discussed designating a person to sit on the Fair Housing Commission.

Dr. Stabinsky recommended that Dr. Amodio send a copy of the Corporation Council’s opinion to Attorney Ciccarillo before the interviews commence, so that the Interview Committee will not only choose the Director, but also gets the approval of this Commission. Dr. Stabinsky read the opinion paper.

NEW BUSINESS

Call for Volunteers for Brochure Subcommittee

International Human Rights Day Advance Planning Subcommittee

Reverend Nissing was absent, therefore there was no discussion.

FAIR HOUSING ADVISORY COMMISSION LIAISON’S REPORT

Mr. Dupervil spoke about affordable housing in Norwalk. Dr. Stabinsky pointed out that there is a difference between affordable housing and low income housing. Mr. Dupervil said that this topic is coming up for discussion. Dr. Amodio said that a meeting to discuss affordable housing will take place at City Hall on June 5th.

Mr. Dupervil said that he has not seen any Human Relations discrimination issues showing up in Fair Housing cases.

FIELD REPRESENTATIVE’S REPORT

Mr. Patterson distributed a copy of correspondence from Margaret Suib.

Mr. Patterson reported that he updated the Department’s website. He asked the Commissioners to let him know about any address or telephone number changes. In addition, he asked everyone to let him know if they will be unable to attend a meeting.

CASE BRIEFINGS

There were no cases to discuss.

EXECUTIVE SESSION FOR CASES

Due to no cases, there was no Executive Session.

Mr. Dupervil asked if it would be possible to keep the meetings to one hour or at a maximum, 1 ½ hours. Dr. Amodio said that she would try.
