Meeting called at 6:45 pm
T Mobilia, T D’Andrea in attendance.
The first meeting of the committee for the 2005 year was held 04/18/05.
Committee structure, members and assignments were discussed.
It was agreed that the Mayor’s Water Quality Committee summer intern program would focus within Norwalk City limits.
Interviews for the Water Quality summer intern positions will be scheduled. All candidates will be reviewed by three committee members. Interns will be in place by June 1st 2005.
A letter from the chair will be forwarded to Tom Closter of the Norwalk Health Department to confirm their commitment and funding of the City of Norwalk beach testing program. It will be again explained that if the interns are not compensated by the Health Department for work done on the Health Department’s behalf and request, the program as administrated by the Mayors Water Quality Committee will be discontinued.
Additional sources of funding and test site designations were discussed.
Calibration of the MY Sound probe by J. Schnierlein and T. D’Andrea took place on the 20th of the month. The probe is in good working order.
Shellfish Commission reports rainfall in March of 3.12 inches. Four minor wastewater spills were reported and contained. Harbor water temperature is 43 degrees. Concerning the wastewater treatment plant the Shellfish Commission reports that the air filtration unit at the dechlorination building has been out of order for over two years. Foul odors from the plant are expected to increase as the outside temperature warms. The chair will call Commissioner Bartoli and offer support.
Tony Mobilia and Tony D’Andrea are scheduled to meet with Mayor Knopp 04/26 to discuss the Water Quality Committee.
