Action postponed due to the lack of a quorum

Influenza Program
Public clinics set to begin on October 18, 2003. There are 11 sessions scheduled. Elderly minority residents and residents of senior housing developments continue to be underrepresented. Clinics scheduled for the Senior Center South and Calvary Church were scheduled in order to provide easy access for the above-mentioned groups. Health Department senior staff will meet with leaders of the Hispanic and African American community to identify barriers and develop solutions.

Lifestyle/Physical Activity Plan
Cardiovascular Health Grant - Year two is underway. Three additional walking routes, and marketing campaign promoting physical activity are planned. There is a nutritional component that will allow for the distribution of vouchers to senior citizens for fruits and vegetables at the Farmers’ Market.

Strategic Plan – Marta Moret will facilitate the development of a strategic plan. Ms. Moret is able to provide this service as part of her contract with the CT Department of Public Health Cardiovascular Health Initiative. A student intern is researching similar type projects. The planning group will meet in November 2003.


Emergency Preparedness Update
FY 04 grant from CT DPH is for $90,114. The tasks include the development of a local emergency response plan, participation in a regional effort including drills and exercises, completion of a smallpox mass vaccination plan and the purchase of ancillary supplies, participation in the development of a local Health Alert Network and training for staff.

Status of Employees Assistance Program
Nancy Joyce is retiring on October 31, 2003. A decision on contracting the service will not be made by that date. A Coverage plan is in place.
