Minutes of June 8, 2004 Meeting
A motion to approve the minutes of these meetings was made by Dr Tracey, seconded by Dr. McNamara and was passed by a unanimous vote.

Pediatrics in Norwalk
The Board discussed the state of pediatric health care in Norwalk.
Mr. Callahan presented a report that was prepared by Darleen Hoffler, Clinical Services Supervisor on the Health Department School Physical Exam Program (attached to minutes). There were 187 appointments available, 80 appointments were made and 56 appointments kept. There was less demand than expected. Next year the clinics will be conducted closer to the opening of school, during the final week of vacation and during the first week of the fall term.
The sentencing of Dr. Jorge Elias is scheduled for September 21, 2004. Upon sentencing Dr. Elias will no longer be allowed to participate in the Medicaid program. His practice will close soon after his sentencing. There is no information on the sentencing of Dr. Shah.
The Norwalk Community Health Center hired one additional provider, a pediatric nurse practitioner. The Health Center is receiving 3-5 new patients per day, most from Drs Elias and Shah.

Grant Awards
The Health Department has received grants for the Sexually Transmitted Diseases program, WIC program, Cardiovascular Health Program and the Emergency Preparedness/Bioterriorism Program.

Other Business
New Canaan Food Inspections
A Norwalk inspector spends one day per week in New Canaan inspecting food establishments. Twenty inspects were made in the initial four weeks. Nearly 70% (14/20) of the establishments inspected did not meet the minimum score.

The Flu program schedule is set with the start date in the later part of October due to expected delays in receiving vaccine. In an effort to attract more city employees a 50% discount to $10 per shot will be offered at the sessions conducted at the Health Department.

Adjourn 9:15 AM
