| NORWALK HISTORICAL COMMISSION MINUTES |
Norwalk Museum Report to the Norwalk Historical Commission, May 25, 2004
Our partnership with the YMCA and the After School Alliance for the Norwalk School System is working very well. The children and their teachers are pleased with the program and delighted to know about the Norwalk Museum and that it is accessible to the public. The groups of children range from 10 – 23 children, ages 5 -11. They learn about museums, the creation of Raggedy Ann in Norwalk, and then design their own dolls, on paper.
Museum attendance has continued to grow steadily. Attendance figures for May are not available as I write this report. We held 4 events in the Museum not counting the Y programs. The total of volunteer hours, phone calls, emails or email searches are not available as I write this report.
The Gift Shop was closed.
The Norwalk Museum received a certificate of Commendation from the Sons of the American Revolution in recognition of Exemplary Patriotism in the display of the Flag of the United States of America. This was presented here in the NM at their ceremony this past Saturday.
Collections:
We have received several small donations this month including photographs.
Another 500+ of the library catalogue cards have been entered into the computerized records.
The next Silvermine Exhibit The Silvermine Art Colony will be held at the New Canaan Historical Society. It will run from June 8 – July 31. The opening and roundtable discussion is on June 14 at 8pm. You are all invited to attend. I will have for you the list of paintings that we will, with your permission, be loaning to the exhibit. Because the restoration work could not be done before the show, I will not allow the Reiffel painting to be exhibited. It is too fragile in its current state.
Next month the museum will present A Soldier’s Life in the American Revolution
on June 19 from 2-4 pm. Eric Chandler a Norwalk resident and a living history
re-enactor will discuss the clothing, equipment and living conditions of a Revolutionary
War soldier and officer o Sheldon’s Light Dragoons, a reenactment organization
based in Connecticut.
