Norwalk Historical Society Report – May 26, 2004
Townhouse
Flagpole & Front Façade Flood Lamps:
Eleck & Salvato inspected the circuit breaker box and found loose breaker
connection, adjusted wire to circuit breaker for flood lamps.
Rodents:
May 13th the alarm was triggered by unknown rodent(s) inside the Townhouse.
After false alarms the NHS bypassed motion detectors until the rodent problem
could be resolved. Rodent(s) chewed one of the front doors/door trim and back
door/door trim.
May 16th the NHS discovered a woodchuck in the Townhouse and tried to maneuver
the woodchuck out of the building to no avail. NHS set a Hav-a-hart trap in
the kitchen.
May 17th one woodchuck was captured in the kitchen and later relocated.
May 19th Mr. Ken North, Building & Management, City of Norwalk approved
Safeway Wildlife Control to service Mill Hill Historic Park for rodents. I met
with Mr. Ron Yanyac, Safeway Wildlife Control to discuss locations for traps.
Rodents captured & relocated by Safeway Wildlife Control:
May 20, 2004 - one woodchuck
May 21, 2004 - one woodchuck, one squirrel, one chipmunk
Traps removed for the weekend, resume May 24th.
Foundation Masonry:
May 13th met with Mr. Brian Sweeney, DPW, City of Norwalk to identify foundation
areas requiring masonry repairs to the Townhouse and Gov. Fitch.
Exterior Trim:
Several shutters require various repairs & hardware fasteners.
Soffit, fascia, back door & wood trim areas have cracked and peeling paint.
Metal trim is rusting.
Weather-stripping is needed for back door to prevent water leaking under door
at threshold.
Gov. Fitch
Windows:
Still waiting for three estimates. Over 14 months since squirrel damage occurred.
Suggest research window schedule information from the original re-construction
plans, blue prints, invoices etc. from the Gov. Fitch building relocation project.
Lock:
Norwalk Lock & Safe was called to repair front door lock. Lock was jammed
and difficult to open. Spring replaced in lock. Locksmith also checked the schoolhouse
lock.
Exterior Siding & Paint:
Wood rot in several areas of siding and trim and exterior paint is cracking
and peeling.
Weather-stripping is needed for the front door to eliminate water leaking under
door at threshold.
Schoolhouse
Rodent:
Locksmith left door open during service call and unnoticed by Locksmith a woodchuck
took refuge in the schoolhouse and in his efforts to escape chewed on one of
the windows. Damage is minimal.
Several shutters require various repairs.
Mill Hill Historic Park is now open to the public on Sundays from 1-4pm.
Respectfully submitted,
