INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELELCOMMUNICATION COMMITTEE MEETING ACTIONS

ITT COMMITTEE MINUTES

JULY 16, 2003

ATTENDANCE: John Lindquist, Dave Lepus, Larry Manzi, Kevin Poruban, Chris Buswell, Ed Schmidt, John Silbert, David Wrinn and Mike Yeosock

There was a general discussion of Board of Education purchase of persoanl computers for school classrooms. Since Craig Reichenbach was not able to make the meeting Ed Schmidt summarized proposal as follows: this is the second year of a three year School Technology Plan; the lowest qualified bidder last year was Corporate Computer Services; and the Board of Education reports that they are satisfied with these computers.

Chris Buswell pointed out that the bid specifications had been modified to delete hard drive casing and he recommended that the computers should be rebid to achieve a larger reduction in price. Buswell also pointed out that last year the City paid for installation of these computers but this service was not provided and City should be reimbursed. Kevin Poruban suggested that given the changes in technology and significant price reductions it was probably wise to go back out to competitive bid. There was a general discussion about whether the computers should be put out to competitive bid for either the second or third year of the School Technology Plan.

It was agreed that members of the Common Council should receive copies of the ITT minutes relating to the purchase of computers in advance of their meeting on 7/22.

Buswell suggested that the City develop a plan for upgrading the entire computer network at City Hall. It was agreed that the ITT Committee would discuss this suggestion at future meetings after the RFP for the Municipal Area Network is completed.

The meeting adjourned at 4:30. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 23 at 3:00 in room 231 to discuss "scope of the work" for the MAN RFP.
