MINUTES
May 18, 2005
ATTENDANCE: Larry Manzi, Karen Del Vecchio, Gerald Foley, Dave Lepus, Tom
Hamilton, Mike Dolhancryk, Hal Alvord, Tom Schadlich, Dave Wrinn, Ed Toth.
Meeting was called to order at 3:08 pm
Minutes of the May 11th 2005 meeting was reviewed, and the minutes were unanimously approved.
City Telephone Solution Status: There was a discussion about the Police and McMahon phone systems. Steve Mandas said that we need to determine what issues are Police and what are McMahon.
RCC: Police Station & McMahon: Steve Mandas said that Phase 2 at McMahon is going along at pace and that they are in de-construction phase.
Status of Cabling RFP: Karen Del Vecchio said that Peter Berry would have specifications documentation complete today. Peter wants to do another walk thru Tuesday in response to complaints from previous bidders. RFP will be ready for reissue by the end of the month.
Status of MAN: Karen Del Vecchio said that the law department is working on the amendment to the DBO agreement. Phase one should be done in October.
Training: Karen Del Vecchio said that Paula Palermo is looking at training for the Norwalk museum staff. Also there will be training in calendaring and Email.
Customer Service Center: Hal Alvord said that the hardware is in and the mayor’s office is reviewing the job applications. Karen Del Vecchio said that the server would be looked at next week.
Miscellaneous/New Items:
a. Common Council request for data wiring in 3rd floor caucus rooms; purchase
and installation of one PC per room; access to the Internet; telephone in
each room
b. Obsolete equipment disposal – update:
c. IT department printer refresh (11 year old LaserJet)
Item A: Ed Toth said that he did not know if the caucus rooms are wired, but
the tables are wired. Tom Hamilton said he was asked if we could use the refreshed
pc’s for this.
Item B: Karen Del Vecchio reviewed a state contract for equipment disposal (spacefitters). They charge a few based on the volume. If the equipment can be resold, we will get 70% back. Discs will be wiped or shreaded. They also handle deployment. There was a general discussion on if this method of disposal fell under the current charter rules, how much it would cost and where to store the equipment. Hal Alvord said that when DPW takes over the old police building we could store the equipment in the building.
Item C: Printer is very old and needs to be refreshed and will be put on the consent calendar next week.
Consent Calendar: none
For Informational Purposes: Dave Wrinn discussed using DSL instead of Frame for the Police.
