TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

November 2, 2005
ATTENDANCE: Gerad foley, Karen Del Vecchio, Ed Toth, Tom Hamilton, Terrance
Morris, Tom Schlidich, Dave Lepus, Mike Dolhancryk, Peter Berry, Frank Sarno,
Dave Wrinn, Larry Manzi,
Chris Buswell.
Meeting was called to order at 3:10 PM.
The minutes from the October 26th meeting were approved.
Status of Telephone Solution: Peter Berry said he had a meeting today to discuss moving the phone system off the T1's and on the MAN. Contract should be done by the end of the week. Law department is reviewing the contract Karen Del Vecchio said that we are looking at training for Terrance (IP Telephony boot camp).
RCC: Status of McMahon project: Peter berry said on dec 1 a
small number of phones are going live and on dec 27th phose 2 move in will
be started.
They are lining up what needs to be done. All 5 switches will be needed and
Karen said we will need a new ups.
Status of South Norwalk Library Project: no updates
Status of Cabling RFP: Karen Del Vecchio said the contract will
be drafted by law, will be doing pre contract walk thru on November 16th at
2pm. Alan Lo will handle the construction part of the the project. Tom Hamilton
asked about fire dept cabling,
Karen Del Vecchio said it is still part of the AT&T project.
Status of MAN: Karen Del Vecchio said the Police department
data services will be cut over tomorrow at 9am then if ok, voice over will
be cut over later. Call Manager will be done on December 4th. Dave Lepus's
pc was cut over at Volk. Terrance Morris said they have hubs at fire and need
a switch right away. He said we need a switch
for the City IT department also ASAP. Dave Lepus said that his response time
has not increased when his pc was cut over. Still pressing ahead with phase
2.
Training: No Update.
Customer Service Center: Frank Sarno said he is still working on automatic updates. But they are ok to continue.
Miscellaneous/New Items:
Law Department Contract Management Software: Karen Del Vecchio said that she
prepared document for Law and technical specification. Law will create the
rest of the RFP based on their requirements.
Cell phones and PTT communications: No Update.
MUNIS Version 2004/ upgrade: Frank Sarno said Linix operating system was received but we need the previous version.
GPS tracking system for DPW and other vehicles: No Update.
Data switch upgrades for Data Center and Volk Central Fire Station: Karen Del Vecchio sent specification to Gerald Foley for switches. Terrence Morris spec'd out switches. Gerald will find the best price for switches. The need for these switches are immediate. The switches are Cisco 48 port.
Consent Calendar:
Authorize the Purchasing Agent to issue purchase orders for quantity 3 APC
SC 420VA, p/n SC420, UPSs with line conditioning for the Norwalk Museum PCs,
account 01 6300 5311, for an amount not to exceed $350.00 (recommended by
IT Dept and approved by Norwalk Historic Commission at its 10/26/05 meeting;
source to be determined by Purchasing).
Authorize the Purchasing Agent to issue a purchase order to Dell Computer Corporation for a Dell Laptop computer with docking station for an amount not to exceed $2,225.04, per Dell quotation 252896324 dated 10/31/05, account 011350-5741 (Budgets and Systems).
Dave Wrinn moved to approve the consent calendar, Ed Toth seconded with all
in favor, non opposed.
For Information only:
Mike Dolhandcryk said we need to expand the blackberry service for several
people. It is a major communications issue and is critical for emergency services.
Mike prefers push to talk. It can handle contacting several people in an emergency.
Frank Sarno said we would need to upgrade to a server. The price to go from
up in licenses will have to increase from a standard to and enterprise version.
There was discussion on costs, carriers and options of current blackberry
and proposed expansion. Karen Del Vecchio asked Mike Dolhancryk to get her
a number of how many blackberries that are needed.
