TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

APRIL 4, 2007
ATTENDANCE: Karen Del Vecchio, Dave Lepus, Dave Ross, Gerald Foley, John Giorgio, Larry Manzi , Frank Sarno, Paula Palermo, Al Kao, Ralph Valenzisi
Meeting called to order at 3:08 pm.
1. March 21, 2007 Meeting MInutes: approved.
2. RCC: Status of City Telephone Solution update from RFP review panel: Karen
Del Vecchio said that we need to know if panic buttons go through pots lines
or through switch. Email was sent to finance to see if they can review the
financials of vendor. Ralph Valenzisi said the BOE is looking to get $25,000
for their part. Ralph Valenzisi asked when install would be done. Karen said
it may be approved by May 22, 2007, but then it will have to go through the
Law Department. Ralph said he will look into purchasing the switches separately.
3. Status of Norwalk High Phase 1: Ralph said that Norwalk High may be replacing
the phone system with VoIP. He is looking at the costs. Karen said she will
help pull the numbers for the phone system from the McMahon project.
4. Training: Public Works wants a day of training. Outlook training in inspector’s
office will be done for Perkins at Fire department. Acrobat training for acting
supervisors at public works is needed. Also more training at Legal dept and
Parks and Rec. is needed.
5. Miscellaneous/New Items
a. Cell phones and push-to-talk: no update
b. Norwalk Government Access Broadcast Content Guidelines Policy development:
no update
c. Firehouse software upgrade: Dave Ross said we should wait until we get
a copy of version 7 before doing the upgrade. Meeting on Monday with Peter
(Firehouse).
d. Health Dept clinical and environmental system search. Karen Del Vecchio
said we should have a meeting next week. Timing was critical as the grant
for this initiative expires June 30, 2007.
e. Active Directory: Karen Del Vecchio said we talked with a potential vendor
partner last week and we are looking at partnership to help in design and
implementation. The City provided a list to Microsoft of our current licenses
and we are waiting for proposal from ASAP. We may put out an invitation to
bid. Looking to be done by the end of June. Frank Sarno said there are a lot
of items tied together to complete this project, not just Active Directory.
f. Blackberry service expansion: Karen Del Vecchio said that she received
a list from Chief McCarthy with 10 people listed and talked with Cingular
for options. The phone is now $99. Existing phone numbers will be ported over
to the Blackberry. Cingular will provide ½ day of hands on training.

b. Frank Sarno asked about Telestaff, Karen Del Vecchio said that to her knowledge,
the contract is still in the Law Department.
