The Building
Department is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Connecticut
State Building Code and the laws and regulations set forth by the Connecticut
Department of Public Safety. It's the Department's responsibility to
review all applications and drawings for building and safety code compliance;
issue building and all related trade permits; conduct required inspections
of building sites and buildings; issue Certificate of Occupancy after
satisfactory completion of all permitted work. The Department is also
responsible for the protection of unsafe and hazardous buildings and
the Building Official serves as chairman of the Condemnation Committee
of the City. The Department is responsible for all the demolition of
and asbestos removal in buildings. They are also responsible for all
swimming pools, signs, ad tents, and their permits and inspections.
They inspect and process all complaints of code violations.
