Norwalk Tree Festival Reception Sept. 27
Norwalk, CT Sept. 12 —How volunteers can help to preserve Norwalk’s
award-winning urban forest is to be divulged Sept. 27 at a reception in
the DoubleTree Hotel (789 Connecticut Ave.) when plans are also to be
unveiled for the Second Annual Norwalk Tree Festival next spring.
Mayor Richard Moccia is among those who plan to attend and a report on
tree initiatives in Norwalk is to be delivered by Hal Alvord, director
of the Norwalk Public Works Department and the city’s Tree Warden.
The “Tree Festival Reception” is sponsored by the Norwalk Tree Advisory
Committee under Chairman Don Nelson and the Norwalk Tree Alliance headed
by President Dave Tracy.
Both organizations were cosponsors of the inaugural Norwalk Tree Festival
that drew more than 500 last May to Mathews Park.
Norwalk is among a select number of cities in the U.S. designated “Tree
City
U.S.A.” for its enterprise in promoting trees as a valuable community
asset that adds to the beauty of the community, provides sustenance for
wildlife, improves the air quality, prevents soil erosion and raises property
values.
Information about reception is available by calling Don Nelson at (203)
