WHAT: Norwalk Mayor Richard A. Moccia in coordination with Norwalk Hospital, the City of Norwalk and the American Cancer Society will proclaim September Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Light refreshments will be served. WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m. WHERE: Norwalk Hospital, front of Perkin Auditorium (in the main lobby of the hospital), which is on 34 Maple Street in Norwalk WHO: Mayor Moccia, Norwalk Hospital Chief of Radiation Oncology & Medical Director of the Whittingham Cancer Center Dr. Pradip Pathare, Senior Attending Physician for the Norwalk Medical Group Dr. Kesav Nair, Urologist Dr. Jonathan Bernie, Clinical Research Specialist Jennifer Long, APRN, American Cancer Society Cancer Control Executive Lisa Miller, Norwalk Health Department Director of Health Tim Callahan and Communications Director at Norwalk Hospital Maura Romaine. WHY: September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which brings light to the fact that prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed non-skin cancer among men in America. This year, the American Cancer Society estimates that more than 218,800 men, including 2,890 in Connecticut, will learn that they have prostate cancer, and over 27,000, including 390 in this state, will lose their lives to this disease.
