OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
RICHARD A. MOCCIA

PRESS RELEASE August 10, 2007

ConnDOT To Take Up Route 136 Truck Issue

The City of Norwalk has been advised that the ConnDOT through its State Traffic Commission will take up the joint application of Norwalk and Darien to create a "no through truck" zone on the Darien portion of Route 136. The matter is on the Traffic Commission's agenda for August 21st at 10:00am in Newington. Mayor Moccia stated "I hope that the Traffic Commission will look favorably on the joint application of Norwalk and Darien. We have been seeking such a change for more than 20 years and Norwalk believes that ConnDOT is legally obligated to adopt such a regulation under the Stipulated Judgment that settled the litigation over the creation of MLK Boulevard." The City expects Darien and other involved parties, including State Senator Duff, to continue their strong support for the regulation at the next hearing.

Mayor Moccia indicated "I have asked the Law Department to once again appear before the Commission to express our unwavering support for the "no through truck" zone." Norwalk will fully support the regulation and and if it is adopted, will install signage in Norwalk on Route 136 and leading to it from other known truck routes, to help insure such traffic is diverted to I-95 before it gets to Rowayton.
