OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
RICHARD A. MOCCIA

Press Release - August 23, 2006

In response to requests from residents and merchants in the Wall and Main Street area, I have requested that bike patrols be initiated in the Wall and Main Street area. Chief Rilling has heard some of the same complaints and, therefore, the patrols started on August 19 and will continue on a regular basis. The officer's area of patrol will be Wall Street, Lower Main Street, Belden Avenue, Freese Park and Burnell Blvd. The primary complaints made were that panhandlers were aggressively approaching people and harassing them and the consumption of alcoholic in Freese Park. We urge any of the residents or businesses in the areas listed, that if they do feel intimidated or see the consumption of the alcoholic beverages in public places to either alert the bike patrol or call Police services at 854-3000 so they can dispatch the officer to the location.
