PRESS RELEASE - October 2, 2006
“Today, at the request of the owner of the Norwalk Inn, I have been asked to have a meeting with him, Tod Bryant of the Norwalk Preservation Trust, and Zoning officials. The meeting is to determine if there could be a compromise plan worked out to save the 93 East Avenue house, but still allow the Norwalk Inn to maintain financial viability.
I had been reluctant to become involved because the City had
no legal standing in the actual demolition of the house other than issuing
the demolition permit. However, as the owner has indicated, he would like
to have the meeting. I feel that by at least having the parties explore other
options it may defuse the situation. I want to make it clear that this meeting
is not a guarantee of any changes to the original plan, but at least it will
offer the opportunity for discussion,” states Mayor Moccia.
