MAYOR RICHARD MOCCIA INVITES RESIDENTS TO THE
THIRD ANNUAL DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS OPEN HOUSE
ON SEPTEMBER 30, 2006
Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia, Public Works Committee Chairman William Krummel
and Department of Public Works Director Hal Alvord will host the City of Norwalk’s
Third Annual Public Works Open House at the Public Works Center, located at
15 South Smith Street, on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 10:00 AM – 1:00
PM. The Public Works Open House will provide Norwalk residents with a chance
to learn more about City infrastructure, understand Public Works services and
programs and for children to enjoy climbing on the “big trucks.”
“ Saturday’s Open House will be a great opportunity for Norwalk citizens to view the Public Works Center , learn about DPW operations and meet the City’s Public Works staff,” said Mayor Moccia. “Public Works is responsible for over 625 lane miles of roadway, disposes of 90,000 tons of solid waste and over 8,000 tons of recyclables annually, cares for all trees in public right of ways, manages over 4,000 parking spaces, collects and treats 14 million gallons of wastewater daily and maintains Norwalk’s central fleet and municipal buildings,” added Mayor Moccia.
“The Open House will also provide Norwalk residents with a chance to find out more about the Customer Service Center and to obtain information on such issues as obtaining permits, road repaving programs, where to park and how to request work,” said Public Works Committee Chairman William Krummel.
“There will be a slide show of various City projects, tours of the wastewater
treatment plant, demonstrations of test projects, and opportunities for children
to have their pictures taken on heavy equipment,” stated Hal Alvord, Director
of Public Works.
“The City of Norwalk thanks all of the volunteers, staff and the following sponsors
who help make the Open House possible: Stew Leonard’s Dairy, Operations Management
International, Inc., City Carting, Inc., LAZ Parking, LTD, and Almstead Tree
and Shrub Care Company,” stated Mayor Moccia.
Immediately preceding the Open House event, at 9:15 AM, Mayor Moccia will preside at a ceremony dedicating South Smith Street as “Donald E. Scott Memorial Drive.” Donald E. “Scotty” Scott, now deceased, culminated a 40-year career with the City as Highway Superintendent. The unveiling will take place at the intersection of South Smith Street and Reynolds Street and will be attended by family, friends and City staff. Residents are cordially invited to attend.
