PRESS RELEASE
August 1, 2006
“Based on complaints and numerous photos received in my office, I have determined that many of the businesses on Wall Street are not following regulations for the placing of trash out for collection,” states Mayor Richard Moccia.
The City Code requires that trash be placed in rigid containers, not in plastic bags. The businesses had several notices sent to them on this matter, but some continue to ignore the law, which creates a litter and health problem. Therefore, on Friday, August 4, 2006, at 9 A.M., I will be doing a walking tour on Wall Street with Police Chief Harry Rilling and Director of Health Tim Callahan.
We will visit each of the businesses with copies of the photos to advise them of the regulation and to ask for their cooperation and point out that they are subject to a $99 fine for each individual violation. I will also advise them that the DPW crews that collect the waste will be carrying a camera and will photograph any future violations to provide proof for the fines to be assessed.
“I hope after a personal visit to the offenders the matter will be corrected
and that Wall Street will be a much cleaner and healthier place to live, work
and visit,” states Mayor Moccia.
