Q: What do I own that is subject to taxes, and when are they due? |
|
A: Three types of property are assessed and subject to taxes: Real Estate, Motor Vehicle, and Business Personal Property. Any land or buildings you own are considered real estate. Registered motorized or unmotorized vehicles, (including cars, trucks, trailers and motorcycles) are considered motor vehicles for tax purposes. Business Personal property is a general category including business equipment, machinery, furniture and fixtures either owned or leased by business. Unregistered motor vehicles are also taxed as personal property. Taxes are due in July and January. The first installment of dual installment real estate, personal property and sewer use taxes and charges is due July1, payable without penalty by August 1. Motor vehicle taxes are due in a single installment on July 1, payable by August 1. The second installment of dual installment bills is due January 1, payable by February 1. Pro-rated supplemental motor vehicle taxes, for vehicles newly registered after the assessment date of October 1, are due January 1, payable by February 1. |
