TAX COLLECTOR

FAQ - Question 17

Q: My bill says, "Escrow Account," but I don't have one! What should I do?
A: If the notation "Escrow Account" appears in the "due" box on your tax bill, our records indicate that your real estate taxes are to be paid by a mortgage institution and that information on your parcel of property was requested by an escrow agent. If this is not correct, contact the Tax Collector's Office immediately at (203) 854-7731 or by fax at (203) 854-7770. You are still responsible for paying your tax bill on time even if our records are incorrect concerning whether or not you have an escrow account.
You are still responsible for paying on time even if you misinterpret your tax bill showing the words "Escrow Account" on the bill and payment coupon. (If your bill says "Escrow Account", the corresponding payment amount will not appear on your coupons.)
You can determine what you currently owe by examining the upper statement portion of your bill. Write the correct amount due on your payment coupons, and remit your payment in the usual manner.
