TAX COLLECTOR FAQ - Question 23 |
Contact us |
| Q: What period of time does this bill cover? |
|
A: Motor vehicle and personal property tax bills sent in June 2007 and December 2007 cover the time from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007. Personal property tax bills may be due in two installments. There is no statutory rule concerning the time period covered by real estate tax bills. If you buy or sell real estate, adjustments for real estate taxes will be made by the attorneys who are handling the closing. Care should be taken to ensure taxes are paid, particularly when a closing occurs within 60 days of a tax billing. If your property was involved in a transfer of ownership within 2 months of a tax billing cycle, your tax bill may not reflect this change. Contact the Assessor's Office for more information on the transfer, and contact the Tax Collector's Office for a copy of your bill, if you did not receive one. See frequently asked question #24 for more information on property transfers. |
