SEPTEMBER
11, 2001
NORWALK, CONNECTICUT
The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Common Council
of the City of Norwalk was held on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 in the Common
Council Chambers, City Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut. Mayor
Esposito called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m., then led the assembly in
reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Esposito asked the assembly for a moment of silence for the victims
and their families in New York and throughout the country. He stated that
everyone will remember the attack on our country. There are 200 firemen and
policemen reported missing or dead. He stated that he is going to curtail
political functions this week and maybe next week. That it is time to sit
down and pay attention to what is happening and to see what we can do to help
the people in New York City. He mentioned that we sent 12 policemen and 12
firemen to New York to help in anyway they can. We have individuals at the
railroad station assisting with any of the injured that may come to Norwalk
Hospital. We have ambulances standing by at the railroad station. He went
on to mentioned that he will be in his office until late this evening and
anyone is welcome to sit in. That this is an emergency and he thinks we have
to stick together and put our differences aside. This is something that needs
the cooperation of not only New York City but the surrounding communities.
He stated that he hopes to set up a vigil Sunday evening. That he will talk
to members of the different clergy and hopes to have something at the Concert
Hall or at one of the athletic fields. He went on to mentioned that this is
something we will all remember as long as we live. That we should unite, stick
together and do whatever we can to help the citizens in our city that are
coming back. Let's have a moment of silence.
