City of Norwalk CT DPW Project News

Norwalk, Connecticut - The City of Norwalk, Ct has proposed a project to make improvement to its traffic control system. The project is in the concept stage and may be recommended for construction under the Surface Transportation Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation. This project, if supported by the community and City officials, will be designed by the City.

It is the City's and State's policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns to assist in the project's development. The City will conduct a public informational meeting on Tuesday, September 7 from 4:00 PM to 7:00PM in the Public Works Library - Room 225, City Hall, 125 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT.

This is Phase 1 of a multi-phase request to upgrade traffic controllers in Norwalk. The proposed scope of this phase is to make traffic signal improvements at 24 signalized locations in South Norwalk. The project involves the replacement of existing controllers, installation of fiberoptic communication, and video detection at critical intersections to facilitate traffic signal communications. ADA ramps and pedestrian signals will be installed at new signal or full replacement locations. Improvements will also be made to the Traffic Operating center and the satellite center at City Hall.

Based upon a preliminary assessment, the construction cost will be approximately $2,400,000.00.

It is anticipated that the Federal Highway Administration will provide 80% of the construction cost with the State providing 20%.
