Tom Raila has had a hard time getting 11-year-old Sara Nasution’s face out of his mind.

It was a little over a week ago when Nasution nearly drowned in her family’s inground pool. Nasution could not swim and as she was playing in the shallow end she lost her footing and slipped under water, drifting into the deep end. NORWALK — It’s late at night and a call of a fire in a multifamily dwelling is reported to the fire department.
It is unknown whether there are occupants still trapped inside the building or how much damage the fire has already caused.

Firefighters from all five of the city’s stations rush to the scene of the three-alarm fire to find heavy smoke, fire pouring out of the windows and people standing outside looking for loved ones. read more>

Busy months for city firefighters

NORWALK If you think you've been seeing more fire trucks with their lights blazing and sirens wailing on the roads lately, you aren't imagining things.

A recent rash of fires has kept Norwalk firefighters busy during recent months. In the past two months, there have been seven structure fires in Norwalk compared with only three during the same time period last year.

These structure fires have all occurred in single-family homes, which do not receive routine visits from the fire marshal’s office, with the exception of the July 3 fire at a Lexington Avenue multi-unit condominium complex.

With the burst of activity these past two months boosting their stats, Norwalk firefighters have already fought 18 “working” fires this year, four more fires than year than it did during the first seven months of last year. read more>
