The Norwalk Fire Dept. as of May 2, 2005 has a new Chief.
After the retirement of Sanford Anderson who is currently
the Chief of the Greenwich Fire Dept. Denis McCarthy took
over the reigns. Chief McCarthy was sworn in at a ceremony
held at Fire Headquarters on Connecticut Ave. May 12, 2005
at 8:00 A.M.
Chief McCarthy has 27 years of experience in fire command,
progressive fire department administration, and personnel
relations. His accomplishments include, but are not limited
to:
· Chairman of State of Connecticut HazMat Coordinating
Council
· Founder and Chair of Southwestern Connecticut Coastal
Fire Chief’s Association
· State of Connecticut Department of Homeland Security/Office
of Emergency Management Coordinating Council Member
· Chairman, Fairfield County HazMat Team
· Norwalk Hospital Emergency Preparedness Advisory
Council and Planning Team
· Public Safety Academy, Norwalk Community Technical
College Advisory Board Fire Degree Program, Advisory Board
and Adjunct Professor
· SWRPA Emergency Operations Planning Group
· Designed and implemented firefighter fitness program
reducing average sick and injury leave by 4 days per firefighter
· Created comprehensive I-95 standpipe plan adopted
and implemented by Connecticut DOT
· Developed and managed large scale HazMat disaster
exercise for local, regional, state, and federal responders
· Developed and managed Metro North Disaster Exercise
· Former Chief of Westport Fire Department
Chief McCarthy is proactive and will be instrumental in
shaping the delivery of services the Norwalk Fire Department
provides its customers for the 21st century.
