The Norwalk Fire Department’s HazMat company is a combined Hazardous Material and Foam Trailer. Designated HazMat 2, it responds to HazMat calls both within the Norwalk city limits and as a member of the Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team.

The Fairfield County hazardous materials team provides technician level hazardous materials response to 13 municipalities in lower Fairfield County. Norwalk and other municipalities provide and receive the assistance from this team under a mutual aid agreement.

Norwalk Fire Department continues to train several Hazardous Materials Technician level responders to assist the Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team.

HazMat 2 contains a complete inventory of materials to help resolve most Hazardous incidents. It holds approximately 500 gallons of Foam in 5 gallon containers; Level A and B suits; meters; booms; pads, drums, generator, and other items.

The trailer portion of HazMat 1 was donated by Pepsi Bottling Company and refurburbished by the Norwalk Fire Departments, Mechanics division.
