COMMUNITY DIVERSITY EDUCATION DAY

Creating a Community of Respect

The Norwalk Human Relations Commission is planning a workshop for members of Norwalk community organizations to explore issues of diversity within our community. The purpose of the workshop, scheduled for Saturday December 2, 2006 is to bring together members of community organizations and public employees to expand our awareness of the many parts of Norwalk’s culture and to find a common ground to celebrate our differences.

During the workshop, we will be taking time to respect the history of the Norwalk community and each other and to share our successes and challenges in handling diversity related matters as we serve the public at our organizations.

Our goal for the program is to examine:

· How our conscious and unconscious behaviors lead to exclusion of others

· What we can do to build on our successes and to continue to work though the challenges in our organizations and neighborhoods to make a difference

· How we can build a community of respect

The Norwalk Human Relations Commission is committed to taking the suggestions from the workshop to the next step of planning a program of future forums and educational events for the greater Norwalk community. We hope your organization will participate with us in the program. We will be in touch with more details soon.
