North Walke Housing Corporation

Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

The Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund, administered by the North Walke Housing Corporation, will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted.  This program is a piece of the efforts coordinated by the Greater Norwalk Recovery Committee, chaired by Michele DeLuca, Deputy Director of Emergency Management, which has representation by many organizations supporting recovery efforts.

Grants will be need-based and will not exceed $5000, except in very rare and extenuating circumstances.

Eligible applicants are those households with annual incomes less than or equal to 50% of the area median income (adjusted for family size) needing critical home repairs and/or appliance replacement as a result of damages caused by Hurricane Sandy. Assistance to households earning more than 50% but less than 80% of the area median income (adjusted for family size), and having extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis. A chart illustrating the area median income adjusted for household size is available here.

Eligible needs are required to be a result of damages caused by Hurricane Sandy and not otherwise covered by insurance, FEMA, SBA or other assistance. In addition to assistance with home repairs and/or appliance replacement, emergency rental assistance for displaced households is also available where needs exceed assistance available through other resources.
