The Norwalk Department of Police Services
oversees the city's Animal Control Program. The city employs a dog warden, assistance dog warden, and a kennel keeper, who handle the majority of calls for animal complaints throughout the city, as well as maintain the operation of the city's dog pound on Smith Street. Over 800 calls are handled and 60 arrests made each year (on average) in relation to animal control issues by the animal control officers.
The Animal Control Division enforces local laws pertaining to the keeping of dogs, cats, and other animals. In addition, it supervises dog adoptions
when pets are not claimed by their owners. We do not house cats at the shelter.
