The
Department of Public Works is responsible for the collection, disposal, and regulation of solid waste, including yard waste, recyclables and household hazardous waste in the City of Norwalk.
Responsibilities
The Public Works Operations Division manages the contracted weekly curbside garbage collection in the Fourth Taxing District, and weekly citywide, curbside colleciton of recyclables for residential and commercial properties. It also manages the use and administration of the Crescent Street
Solid Waste Transfer Station and the South Smith Street Yard Waste Drop-Off. In addition, the division administers all related tipping fees charged to users, the registration and licensing of commercial solid waste haulers, and commerical and residential transfer station/yard waste site permits.
