The Identification Unit is responsible for maintaining records for all
persons arrested by the Norwalk Police Department. Each year, the unit
is responsible for cataloging the personal data, fingerprints, and
photographs of over 3,400 persons arrested by the department. They also
provide background checks and fingerprinting services
for the public.
Crime Scene Processing
In addition, the unit also provides crime evidence processing at
most major incidents which occur in the city. The unit is utilized at
over a dozen such scenes each year that require special processing
techniques or equipment.
The unit gathers evidence and processes scenes using some of the
most state-of-the-art equipment available, including a specialized laser
used for locating trace evidence and fingerprints. The unit is often
called upon by other jurisdictions for consultation on a variety of
cases and has assisted departments state-wide in processing crime
