Norwalk Wireless Internet Access Use Policy
 


The City of Norwalk makes available to the public wireless Internet access available through the use of personal laptop computers equipped with a wireless network connection and valid public library card. Use of this wireless network is a privilege in exchange for which you must abide by the City of Norwalk Public Library’s Wireless Internet Access policy, the rules and restrictions set out in this document and all applicable laws and regulations governing your activities.

While using this network, you are fully responsible for your acts and activities and you shall bear all risks and consequences of such. You shall refrain from use of the network in order to pursue any prohibited or illegal activities and you shall not engage in any conduct that is or may be illegal, unlawful, infringing on any rights of others, or tortuous, harmful in any way. Users are prohibited from harassing, libeling and engaging in threatening communications. As well, you must not engage in conduct that may violate another’s intellectual property, privacy or other rights or that otherwise interferes with the operation, use or enjoyment of any service, system or other property. Any violation of the above will result in a suspension of privileges related to the use of this network.

Users are responsible for evaluating the materials that are accessed and should refrain from accessing potentially offensive or objectionable information or images while in a public location. Parents/guardians of minors are responsible for supervising and monitoring their children's Internet use. The system does NOT provide filtered access and, thus, the City of Norwalk is not responsible for safeguarding your child against any unwanted, objectionable or inappropriate content.

When using the network you shall agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the City of Norwalk its officers, employees and agents from and against any and all claims, actions, demands, liabilities, costs and expenses, including, without limitation, reasonable attorney’s fees, that may result from your use of the network and/or breach of any applicable terms or restrictions.

You are advised that this network is not secure. Therefore, you are not entitled to any expectation of privacy or security in terms of your use of the network and the City assumes no responsibility in this regard. Any information that is sent from your laptop can be captured by anyone with a wireless device and appropriate software within or near your location. Library staff cannot provide technical assistance. Additionally, the City assumes no responsibility for the safety of your equipment or for any alterations or loss of configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to its wireless network. Printing capability is not available.

Important Notice: By choosing to use this free wireless service you agree to abide by all of the above stated conditions as well as any and all further restrictions, requirements, and limitations that the City may impose on users of its wireless network from time to time.

You are also advised that, without limiting any other available right or remedy, the City reserves the right to: (1) take any actions that it may deem, in its sole discretion, to be appropriate to protect any persons or property against violations of this Policy or abuse of the services provided, and to otherwise protect the best interests of the public; (2) investigate and cooperate with appropriate authorities regarding any illegal or unauthorized activities involving the use of the wireless services provided. As a user you shall be liable to the City for any damages, costs or expenses incurred due or related to a violation of the terms of this Policy, including without limitation, damages paid to third parties, costs of repairs or replacements, and reasonable attorney’s fees and costs of enforcement.

The City of Norwalk reserves the right at any time to discontinue the display of information or images that may cause a public disturbance. The City further reserves the right to deny wireless access to anyone at any time and can make no guarantees about the availability or proper functioning of this service.
