Important Dates & Deadlines

2022 PRIMARY: AUGUST 9, 2022  - DEMOCRATIC PARTY, & REPUBLICAN PARTY
You must be enrolled in one of the two major parties (Democratic or Republican) to vote in that party's primary.
If your are not registered to vote, or are registered, but not affiliated with any party, the last day to register and/or join a major party is August 4, 2023 by mail or, Noon, August 8, 2022, in person only.
If you are registered to vote and already affiliated with any party (Democratic, Republican, Working Families, Independent, etc.) Per state law, the LAST DAY to CHANGE PARTY AFFILIATION so as to vote in the Primary WAS May 9, 2022.

2022 STATE/FEDERAL GENERAL  ELECTION: NOVEMBER 8th, 2022
REGISTRATION: IN PERSON, BY MAIL, OR ON-LINE:
For the November 8th Election, the last day to register to vote is November 1, 2022. Mail to the Registrar's Office (Room 103, Norwalk City Hall, Norwalk CT, 06851), or Register In Person by hand-delivery to the Registrars office, the DMV, or voter-registration agency, or register on-line, based on your Connecticut Drivers' License, using the Secretary of the State's website.

The Registrar's office will be open until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening November 1.

Note: Persons whose rights as to age, citizenship, or residence mature after November 1, 2022, may apply up to Noon November 7, 2022.

Also Note: Connecticut law allows for Election Day Registration (EDR), so if you have not registered to vote by the general election cut-off dates, it is still possible to come into City Hall on Election Day — November 8 (between 6:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M.) register and vote. Persons wishing to do so must prove their identity and their Norwalk residency. This can be done by a single valid I.D., such as a current Connecticut Driver's License, or with documents which prove identity and residence separately, such as an I.D with name and old address (which proves identity), plus a current (with the last 30 days) utility bill or other document proving Norwalk residency  — and vote at City Hall.

Change of Name and/or Address within Norwalk: If you have changed your name from the one on the voter lists, you should fill out a new voter registration card at your polling place before you vote, Please make sure to fill in the part of the form that provides space for your old name. If you have moved within Norwalk (so that your name is on the Official Checklist at your old polling place) you should come to the polling place for your new address. You should fill out a new voter registration card before you vote. Please make sure to fill in the part of the form that provides space for your old address.

There is NO Election Day Registration in any Primary Election. There is NO Election Day Registration at the regular polling places – it is only conducted at City Hall where the election officials have access to the on-line Connecticut Voter Registration System.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS for the general election will be available from the Town Clerk beginning October 7, 2022.
