Music on the Hill presents "Threads of Light: A Tapestry of African-American Spirituals"

Saturday, October 1, 2016

A new work by Music on the Hill artistic director Ellen Dickinson, "Threads of Light" weaves together over 30 spirituals, set in three movements -- Hope, Journey, Glory -- including both familiar songs ("Deep River" and "My Lord, What a Morning") and others less often heard. The concert features the Music on the Hill Festival Chorus and the Special Projects Choir of the Unitarian Church in Westport, joined by soloists Harriett Alfred, soprano, and Edward Pleasant, bass; trumpet, bass, and bells; as well as special guests reading poetry by African-American poets. Ellen Dickinson conducts.
