[ARCHIVED] Norwalk Memorial Day Schedule 2020

memorialday

The City of Norwalk reminds the public of the following information for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2020:

  • There will be no garbage and recycling collection for the City of Norwalk, and collections will be pushed back one day to follow the holiday schedule;
  • The Norwalk Transfer Station, located at 61 Crescent Street and the Yard Debris Site, located at 15 South Smith Street, will be closed;
  • Norwalk Public Schools will not have distance learning instruction for students. Meal distribution sites will also be closed. On Friday, May 22, families can pick-up meals for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday;
  • City Hall will be closed; and
  • Governor Lamont’s Executive Order limiting social and recreational gathers to no more than five people remains in effect.

With the cancelation of this year’s Memorial Day Parade due to COVID-19, Mayor Harry Rilling and the American Legion encourage residents to pay tribute to fallen heroes at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.) on Monday, May 25, by lighting candles and placing them on front porches or leaving a light on in the window. As physical distancing measures limit the ability to perform traditional Memorial Day remembrances, such a display will help honor those who served.
