The City of Norwalk announced today that Bulky Waste Collection returns next month, and will run through October 2021. The popular program was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bulky collection resumes on March 10.

“Hundreds of tons of materials have been collected through the Bulky Waste program since it began three years ago. We had to hit pause on collections last year when the pandemic hit, but I am pleased to see it return in 2021. I know residents appreciate this service,” Norwalk Mayor Harry W. Rilling said. “Calling in for a collection makes it easier for residents to dispose of unwanted furniture, appliances, or other bulky items. I encourages residents to call and schedule a pick up and take advantage of this program in 2021.”

The Bulky Waste Collection Program began in 2018 for residents who receive City garbage collection. Residents call and schedule a curbside pick-up of bulky waste on a designated day. Before the program began, residents were responsible for bringing bulky waste to the Transfer Station. In 2018, the first year of the call-in program, the City made over 1,000 stops and collected more than 120 tons of bulky materials, metal, and plastic being collected. In 2019, the City made nearly 1,200 stops, which resulted in more than 133 tons of bulky materials, metal, and plastic being properly collected and discarded. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was paused.

The Fourth Taxing District has been divided into four sections for the 2021 Bulky Waste Collection. Zone 1 collection will be performed on March 10, followed by Zone 2 on April 14. For the complete schedule, visit A map of the collection zones is available online at

Residents are required to call Customer Service at (203) 854-3200 to request a collection of bulky items and must specify items they are placing at the curb. Requests can be placed anytime up until 4:30 p.m. on the Monday before a scheduled collection. Items cannot be placed curbside until the Monday before the collection date.
