Dog License Renewals Due in June

2021 Dog Licenses

Last year, the City of Norwalk issued close to 2,400 dog licenses. All of these licenses must be renewed for 2021. Any new dogs over six months of age or currently unlicensed, must also register at this time.

The 2021 dog licenses are now available in the Norwalk Town Clerk’s office at City Hall. All currently registered dog owners will soon be receiving renewal notices in the mail or via email. City Hall is open to the public with no appointment necessary. Face coverings are still required.

The Town Clerk’s Office is also accepting renewals through the mail. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return. Residents may also drop off their renewal request at the Town Clerk drop box, located outside the front doors at City Hall. The Town Clerk’s office will process and mail the license to you.

Per Connecticut State Statute 22-349, all dogs must be licensed with the City. Owners of unlicensed dogs could be subject to a $75 fine.

The 2021 license is valid from July 1, 2021, until June 30, 2022. Fees for neutered and spayed dogs are $8, and the fees for unneutered and unsprayed dogs is $19. In August, the fees increase by $1 and each month thereafter, another $1 is added to the original fee. If expired, a current rabies certificate signed by a veterinarian must be presented to the office to comply with state law. If a dog has not been registered before, a neutering or spaying certificate must also be presented for the first time when registering, if the dog has been altered. The Town Clerk Office is located in Room 102, City Hall, 125 East Avenue.

The State of Connecticut has cancelled all Rabies Clinics held by the towns this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Norwalk Animal Control Shelter (dog pound) will not be issuing dog licenses this year.
