[ARCHIVED] Construction at Norwalk Transfer Station Begins September 7

City of Norwalk Brandmark

Members of the public are advised that repairs to the tipping floor at the Norwalk Transfer Station begin on Tuesday, September 7. The Transfer Station will remain open during construction, but half of the compactors will be closed to accommodate repairs to the tipping floor. Longer lines are anticipated since the tipping floor will be at 50% capacity with two compactors inaccessible.

Members of the public are asked to use caution, as concrete barriers will be in place and construction workers will be on-site.

To better accommodate residents, all solid waste collection vehicles are being diverted from the Transfer Station directly to the City Carting facility in Norwalk. Residents are also reminded that cars and SUVs do not need to use the scale on the tipping floor. The scale is used for all commercial vehicles, as well as residential pick-ups, vans, and vehicles with trailers.

The Transfer Station project includes a full replacement of the concrete tipping floor. To keep the scales open, half of the floor will be closed, and once one side is repaired, and the concrete has time to cure, work will begin to the other side. The entire project is expected to take approximately four months.
