The Norwalk Police Department only issues Temporary State of Connecticut Pistol Permits to bona fide permanent residents of the City of Norwalk. Non-Resident Property/Business owners are not eligible. You must be 21 years of age at the time you are fingerprinted. The process now requires a Pre-Enrollment step with the State of Connecticut prior to being fingerprinted and submitting a completed and notarized application on a DPS-799-C form at the fingerprint appointment. STEP 1 – You MUST first go to the Connecticut Criminal History Request System (CCHRS) website at https://ct.flexcheck.us.idemia.io/cchrspreenroll
ENTER SERVICE CODE – E91E-8915 (Norwalk Police Temporary Pistol Permit code)
Complete the required form and pay the State ($75) and FBI ($13.25) fees online. (no longer collected at the Police Dept.)
PRINT OUT – APPLICANT TRANSACTION NUMBER (ATN) – YOU MUST BRING THIS TO THE FINGERPRINT APPOINTMENT!!!
STEP 2 – COMPLETE PISTOL PERMIT APPLICATION AND HAVE IT NOTARIZED. See Application and Instructions link below. Make sure you bring all the items listed in the Instructions to the Fingerprint Appointment.

The records unit should be contacted for copies of police reports. They maintain copies of all reports and will provide copies as requested according to law. The Records Unit window is in the front lobby of police headquarters at 1 Monroe Street. The window will reopen starting June 23, 2020, Tuesday - Thursday from 9:30am 12:00pm and 1:00pm- 4:00pm by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Most accident reports can also be obtained online for an additional fee on the following website. (If purchasing online, please enter the full digit case number including leading zeroes. Ie. 160000XXXX NOT 16-XXXX.

The Norwalk Police Department provides fingerprinting services for bona fide permanent Norwalk Residents ONLY for any reason OR only for Non-Residents that require fingerprinting as a condition of employment with a Norwalk company with a company letter or their business is located in Norwalk and requires a license. * Service Codes – are issued by the CT Employer or CT Agency that is requiring you to be fingerprinted for a background check. Ask them for the Code.
** NO SERVICE CODE or CCHRS Pre-Enrollment Registration is needed if: you need to get fingerprinted for a Non-Connecticut - OUT OF STATE Agency OR FBI FINGERPRINT CARDS such as IMMIGRATION and you are taking the fingerprint cards with you to be mailed to another State. Examples would be… Out of State Insurance/Finance/Nursing/Medical Licenses; Immigration; or Out of State Pistol permits. You still MUST be a Norwalk Resident to be printed.
STEP 2 - Confirm Service Code reason and then enter your required information and pay the required State and Federal fees.
You will then receive an Applicant Transaction Number (ATN) – Print out this transaction number and you MUST bring it to be fingerprinted

LOCATION: 1 Monroe Street – Front Lobby of Norwalk Police Headquarters. Go left to Records Unit window.
FEES: $15 per person on the Livescan or $15 for up to 2 fingerprint cards. Then, $5 for each additional card. PAYMENT ACCEPTED: CASH or DEBIT CARD or MONEY ORDER to: "City of Norwalk".
BAD WEATHER POLICY: If fingerprinting is canceled due to weather or an emergency, you will receive an email notification. Your booked appointment will be automatically moved to the next available day in the same week (most likely Thursday) for the same time slot and you will receive a Confirmation email for the new appointment.
** NOTE: MOISTURIZING HANDS FOR DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL HELP WITH THE QUALITY OF YOUR PRINTS.
Request must be in writing and include $5 per CD (which holds up to 250 photos). Request must include case number, date of incident, type of incident, and check payable to the City of Norwalk.
